
Visa Nationals
If you come from a visa national country, you will need a visa to study in the UK.
If you want to study for less than 6 months you can apply for a Student Visitor Visa.
If you want to study for longer than 6 months but less that 11 months, you can apply for the new Extended Student Visitor Visa.
You must apply for either of these visas in your country-you cannot get this type of visa in the UK.
If you want to study for more than 11 months you need a General Student Visa.
General Student Visas
With this visa you can stay for more than 6 months. You can extend a General Student Visa in the UK. The UK border agency now issues visas according to 'the Points Based System' This is divided into 5 categories or tiers, (depending on why a person is coming to the UK). For students the category is tier 4. The decision to give you a visa depends on the number of points you have. You get points for the following:
- CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies) Number=30 points
CAS Numbers
A CAS number is provided by a sponsor in the case of a General Student Visa this is the School. If you are applying for a general student visa you will need a CAS. We will give you this when you have booked and paid for your course. Rose of York is a Highly Trusted Sponsor by the UK border Agency.
Money
You need enough money in your account to cover your living expenses for 9 months in London. This means you need £800 x 9 = £7200 plus cost of your course This money must be in your account for at least 1 month before you apply for your visa. You need a total of 40 points to get a visa.
How to get a CAS
- Decide what course you want to do and how long you want to study for.
- Complete an on-line application form.
To issue a CAS number we need the following information:
- Telephone number in home country
- Name of next of kin (who do we contact in case of an emergency)
- Relationship between you and your next of kin
•Proof your level of English is B1 or above. To do this you must provide a SELT (Secure English language Test), which includes IELTS, Cambridge, TOEFL, TOEIC, BULATS or PTE Academic.
- Pay for your course + £10 for the CAS number.
Student Visitor Visa
Requirements:
You must be over 18, (if you are under 18 you can apply for a child visitor visa) You must be enrolled at a language school, which either:
- has a tier 4 sponsors license (Rose of York is a Highly Trusted Sponsor by the UK Border Agency)
or
- one which is accredited by an organisation which is approved by the UK border agency, (Rose of York is accredited by the British Council.)
You do not need a CAS number(confirmation of acceptance of studies number) You do not need a minimum level of English You must show that you have enough money - for London this is calculated at £800 per month. (if you plan to bring your family, it will be more than this). To prove you have enough money you will need to show:
- Bank statements for several months
- Evidence of savings to use during your stay
You also need to show evidence that you are going to go back to your country at the end of your course. This could include:
- Evidence of travel plans (a return plane ticket)
- A letter showing that you have a job to go back to, (or evidence that you are self employed.)
- Evidence that you own property in your country
Restrictions:
You can only study for 6 months, if you want to stay longer you need an Extended Student Visitor Visa or a General Student Visa. You can't extend a Student Visitor Visa in the UK. You must return to your country to get a General Student Visa if you want to stay once your six months are finished. You cannot work You cannot attend a government-funded school You cannot do a work placement or internship (paid or unpaid) Do any kind of business in the UK, (buying, selling or providing goods or services) Get private medical treatment
