Key Words: BRING

Meaning and Usage  

                         

Phrasal Verbs with 'Bring'

 

  to bring in = to earn profit

      e.g. The sale of the house brought in about £45,000.

 

  to bring on = to cause an illness

      e.g. Stress can bring on an asthma attack.

 

  to bring off = to accomplish

      e.g. They brought off a successful advertising campaign.

 

  to bring up (1) = to raise (a topic) for discussion

      e.g. Why did you have to bring up the subject of money?

 

  to bring about = to cause

      e.g. The medicine brought about a change in his behaviour.

 

  to bring out = to introduce to the public

      e.g. They've brought out a new perfume called 'desire'.

 

  to bring up (2) = to vomit

      e.g. I had a sandwich for lunch and promptly brought it up again.

 

  to bring forward (to) = to rearrange for an earlier time

      e.g. The meeting has been brought forward to Thursday.

 

Other Common Expressions with 'Bring'

       

       to bring to light = to reveal

      e.g. His evidence brought the real facts to light.

 

  to bring to mind = to remind

      e.g. Thoughts of fishing brought to mind our school days.
