Q When can I start the course?

The General English Course, the Business Course and the IELTS course start every Monday. For other courses, please check starting dates.

Q Can I enrol from this website?

You can enrol online, by fax or by post. Alternatively you can always come directly to the school if you are already in London.

Q How can I pay for the course?

All payments to the school can be made by most major credit cards, by cash, cheque, bank transfer or traveller's cheques.

Q How many students are there in a class?

Our average class size is between 10 to 12 students, although the maximum is 14.

Q How long will it take me to improve my English to the next level?

This varies from student to student. Some students may move up a level after a term (10 weeks), but others may need longer.

Q How can I check my progress at school?

Our teachers will give you a test every five weeks. After the test, you will receive a progress report from your teacher and they will speak to you about what you can do to improve your English.

Q How many different levels are there?

We teach students from elementary level through to proficiency. There are 6 levels in total. Look at the courses page for more details.

Q Will I get a certificate of achievement from the school?

You will have a progress report every 5 weeks and a certificate of achievement when you complete your course with at least 80% of attendance.

Q I am an Intermediate/Upper Intermediate level student and I want to take an examination. What should I do?

You can take the FCE exam or the IELTS exam. Look at the courses page for more details.

Q Will I have the same teacher for the whole course?

Teachers usually change every term, that is every 10 weeks. We think it helps students if they can hear a variety of accents.

Q Can I take holidays?

From 9 weeks on, most courses have holidays entitlement. Please go to the courses page to check.

Q What can I do if I have a complaint to make?

We have a complaints form which you can fill in. You can discuss the problem with your teacher, the Director of Studies or the Principal.

Q I want to go to university in the UK - is it possible?

Yes. You need to take the IELTS exam and achieve a score between 6.0 and 9.0. Alternatively, a pass at CAE level (A, B or C) may be enough.

Q As a student can I get a discount travel card?

Yes, as long as you are studying on a full time course (15 hours per week) for 14 weeks or more, you can get 30% discount off all London transport, Thames link services and National Rail.

Q Are there any other discounts or student cards?

The ISIC card gives you discount on such things as flights and cinemas. Visit www.istc.org for more details. You can also get our Rose of York student card.

Q How can I get to the school?

The school is 5 minutes walk from either Oxford Circus or Great Portland Street Stations (see map). Also, most bus routes will take you to Oxford Circus.

Q How can I find somewhere to live?

We can help you find accommodation. We can organise homestay accommodation where you live with a family in London. There are also many newspapers or agencies where you can find a flat or a house to rent.

Q If I want to extend my student visa, what shall I do?

You can either send your application with the necessary documents by recorded delivery or special delivery at the post office.
Or Visit the Home Office in East Croydon. You can also extend your visa in your country at the British Embassy.

Q How many hours can I work if I have a student visa?

You can work up to 10 hours per week provided that you are studying full time (15 hours per week).
